2011 SHOWS AND OUTINGS
We will be adding some local cross country schoolings as the schedule and weather permits, so please look out for those on the weekly emails. Please be aware of the opening and closing dates for entries for the shows. PLEASE do not forge our signatures on entries for shows. When our names are signed to your entry that means that we are taking legal responsibility for you and your horse at the show, which means that WE get fined or suspended if you break any rules, so we take this very seriously! Signing your entry gives us a chance to go over any drugs or medication rules that may pertain to your horse, talk to you about trailering, stabling, etc for the horseshow, so bring us your entries before sending them in!
You can also get information from us at the barn about proper show and schooling attire, as well as barn colors for vests, helmet covers, pads, etc. We also have show and schooling packing checklists available for you, so come and get them!
Please come and talk to us about which memberships you will need in order to show. The short version is that you will need to be a member of the USEF to show in every discipline (Dressage, Eventing, Hunter/Jumper), otherwise you will pay a non-member fee for each show. Your horse must also be a member of the USEF if you want to collect points to qualify for year-end shows. You and your horse must be members of the USEA if you are showing above Beginner Novice. You and your horse must be a member of the USDF to qualify for year-end championships, otherwise you can pay a non-member fee at each show you attend. You can find information about joining the all of these organizations if you google them. Generally speaking it is worth it to join the organizations if you plan on attending more than one show.
Some fun facts about expenses you can expect to incur when going to a horseshow or a schooling: Coaching or Riding fees are $35/day (or $50/day if EW grooms or braids for you) when the days of the show or schooling don't exceed the number of days/week allowed for in your training package. The Coaching/Riding fees are $75/day (or $100/day if EW grooms or braids for you) if the horseshow/schooling days go over and above the amount of days in your training package. Hotel/lodging fees for EW trainers are split equally between all who attend the show or schooling. A tack stall (normally about $110 for the weekend) is split equally between all who attend. We will only get a tack stall for shows when four or more people are attending the show. You can also expect to buy shavings at the venue for between $8-$10/bag. It's always good to bring a checkbook or extra cash to horse shows and schoolings to allow for schooling fees, shavings, etc. If you don't have your own trailer you can also expect to pay for trailering to and from the show/schooling venue (those prices fluctuate depending on gas, distance traveled, and who your horse rides with).
